Welcome to The Art Department

“Creativity takes courage”

Henri Matisse.

At Tibshelf we encourage pupils to be creative and learn how to express themselves through being imaginative.

During KS3, from Year 7 to Year 9, pupils are taught the basic skills of drawing, painting, printmaking and 3D modelling. This enables them to develop their independent working and problem solving skills through projects that are enjoyable and worthwhile.

These skills give the pupils the confidence, knowledge and ability to continue their artistic career at GCSE level if they so choose.

At KS4 we follow the AQA exam board Art & Design GCSE, which consists of two projects for the coursework element and one further project which is the final set task piece.

The pupils learn to develop their work imaginatively and independently, making personal and creative pieces of work.

Students explore the 7 formal elements in art which are line, tone, pattern, texture, colour, shape and form in three or four projects each year.
