Welcome from the Chair of Governors
It is a huge honour and a privilege for me to be Chair of Governors at Tibshelf Community School. This school has always been held in extremely high esteem by the local community and this is exemplified every year by the high numbers of applications we receive from parents wanting their children to attend. I attended Tibshelf School myself, as did my Mum, my wife and both of my daughters (one of whom still attends).
The governors at Tibshelf Community School are a broad group of volunteers from differing working environments who together strive to make the school the best it can possibly be. We provide a fair balance of support and challenge to Mr. Pollard and the school’s Senior Leadership Team through our various committee meetings and regular school visits, all of which help us understand the school’s strengths and areas that need improvement. The three core functions of all governing boards are these:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
- Holding executive leaders to account for educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff.
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure that its money is well spent, including Pupil Premium.
As governors, we ourselves also work to be better through a robust annual Self Evaluation Programme and by attending Continual Professional Development courses both in school and outside. We all think it is important that to work effectively we build on and share our knowledge, skills and experience in order to achieve our vision and the school motto:
‘Alta Pete’ (Aim Higher)
