Debate Club Launches: “This House Believes…”
Mrs Lee and Mr Martin were ecstatic to see a classroom heaving with enthusiastic pupils as debate club opened its doors for the summer term.
Debate club, a traditional extracurricular activity, empowers pupils to discuss a range of different topics.
As part of the activity, pupils can suggest a statement to put forward.
For example, they might say: “This house believes chocolate should be banned.”
One team will argue in favour of the statement.
Another will debate against it.
Topic ideas are already piling in, including:
- Use of public AI.
- The Ethics of Wealth.
As well as fantastic communication skills, debate is an amazing opportunity to practise active listening, seeing a variety of perspectives, and learning how to think on your feet.
