Food

Subject Overview

As a department, we believe a knowledge of cooking, healthy eating and nutrition is crucial to all our students.

With so many food choices available, it is harder for people to make healthy choices to ensure they are living happy, healthy lives.

"Cooking is my favourite lesson. It's so much fun."

- Summer, Tibshelf Pupil

Through their cooking lessons, they will develop the necessary skills and knowledge to make good choices and plan and cook a whole range of different dishes.

Alongside this, they will develop other transferable skills such as working under time pressure, awareness of health and safety, independence, communication and so much more.

As students move into KS4, they will begin to get a broader comprehension of the full process of planning, preparing, cooking, presenting, and evaluating their dishes to ensure they are making constant progress.

They will also gain a deep understanding of the hospitality and catering industry, the skills they will require, and the avenues available to them for potential career options.

We aim to inspire our students to have a passion for food and build strong healthy habits that they can take with them into their adult lives.
