Curriculum Options

The curriculum at Tibshelf School is ambitious, inclusive, and designed to give all pupils the knowledge, skills and cultural capital to be successful. The measure of success includes, but is not limited to, outcomes at the end of Year 11, along with developing outstanding citizens ready for the 21st century.

Y8 Options Evening – Tuesday 23rd February 2027, 5-7pm

The Year 9 curriculum is a transition year as pupils move towards examination courses. It is vital the offer remains broad and varied. They will, however, have the opportunity to select four areas of study in which they will build a strong and deep foundation in preparation for Key Stage 4.

The Year 8 Options Evening is an opportunity for pupils and their families to discuss subject options with the staff at Tibshelf Community School.

This can be helpful to pupils as they make a decision to pick four subjects which they will specialise in for GCSE.

Pupils will also continue to study all areas of the curriculum through a ‘short course’ programme of study. This ensures that there is absolutely no narrowing of the curriculum.

Please see the accompanying Year 8 Options Pack for more detailed information below. It's worth noting the options pack may be subject to change each year, but can be a useful insight into the process.
