Transport

Tibshelf Community School places an important emphasis on the travel of its pupils to and from school. Healthy initiatives such as walking and cycling to school are widely promoted. However, for those pupils who choose to travel by bus to and from school, below is some information about the various routes that operate.

All bus fares on both the Derbyshire County Council and Privately Contracted Buses are £1 each way.

See below for some suggestions for where to meet students after school.

There is public parking at the following locations:

  • Cemetery on Doe Hill Lane;
  • Adjacent Town End school (although this will be busy at 3pm);
  • Top of back lane and Brook Street.

Derbyshire County Council provides assistance with transport for full time secondary school pupils to the end of statutory school age who do not live within walking distance of their normal area school (3 miles).

In all cases, the distance between home and school is measured by the shortest available route. Bus passes or refunds are issued where appropriate and special contract transport is arranged if public transport is not available.

Parents who send their children to a school which is not their normal area school will not normally receive assistance with their transport costs.

Transport will be provided for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities who attend their nearest school, where the journey exceeds the statutory walking distances or in other cases in accordance with Derbyshire County Council’s Special Educational Needs Transport policy.

From Monday 2nd October the bus fares for a single journey will increase to £1.20

What is County Rider?

We are offering free one-to-one cycle training to people aged 18 or over who live, work or study in Derbyshire.

The great thing about County Rider is that the programme can be tailored to suit your needs. Your instructor will design the programme to suit you whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced cyclist who wants to become an even better rider.

Cycle Routes

Cycling is a great way to explore and experience the Derbyshire countryside. From rolling hills and limestone dales to the high heather clad moorlands, canal towpaths and gentle greenways, there’s something for everyone.

With have over 430km of traffic-free trails that are family friendly and accessible for all, with inclusive cycling hubs offering a range of electric and adapted cycles to hire.

Benefit Related Transport To/From School

If your child is of secondary school age (aged 11 to 16, school year 7 to 11) and you are either:

  • Eligible and registered for free school meals

or

  • Receiving the maximum level of Working Tax Credit and can provide a copy of the latest Tax Credit Award Notice (form TC602) or a recent letter from the benefits agency confirming receipt of maximum Working Tax Credit.

Your child will have an additional entitlement to transport which is usually a free Derbyshire County Council Bus Pass. You can apply directly to Derbyshire County Council via their website or alternatively complete the attached “Application for School Transport Assistance – Form X78” and return this directly to Derbyshire County Council.

The School and Derbyshire County Council operates a strict behaviour policy. Pupils should behave properly at all times. It is an offence for anyone to misbehave on school transport, or to do anything which would put at risk the driver or other passengers. Children who create nuisance or cause any damage on school transport may have their transport provision withdrawn.
